Learning the Basics - Knitting Beginning Knitting: Learn the basics of cast-on, knit, and bind-off in this beginner class. We will get you started on a project that may need to be completed at home. We offer two classes – one for kids (8 – 12 years) and one for adults (13 and up). No experience necessary. Projects change seasonally and may include a scarf, purse, sachet, or beanbag (kids). Kids’ Craft Bootcamp: (BOOT) Join us in an all-day class for some knitting, crocheting and beading fun. We’ll start with knitting instruction, followed by a beading session next door at Bead Heaven, break for lunch (included) and end back at Knitche for a crochet wrap-up. With any luck, you’ll be able to wear your project incorporating all three techniques home! Please note that the minimum age requirement is 9 years old. Smaller Projects - the Quicker the Better Baby Surprise Jacket: Elizabeth Zimmerman’s ingenious design has delighted knitters and gift recipients for years. Knitting it up in fun new yarns gives this classic a decidedly updated look. Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or its equivalent. 3 sessions, $36 plus materials*.  Cashmere Smoke Ring: Karen has designed a luscious smoke ring (tubular neck scarf) in a gorgeous silk and cashmere lace-weight yarn. Beads can be knitted in as you go if desired. This is a great year-round decorative piece that can be pulled up like a hood in the cooler weather. Treat yourself to a little luxury and learn something new in the process.  NEW!!! Sampler Scarf: Learn a new knit stitch pattern each week, then string multiple blocks together for a patchwork scarf with textural and visual interest. The basic crochet assembly technique (no crochet experience necessary) is deceptively easy yet gives the piece a boutique shop appearance. The scarf makes a great gift. Pre-requisite: Knitting 201 or its equivalent. Pay per session, $15 plus materials*. Wed 9/10, 9/17, 9/24 1:00-2:00 p.m. My First Socks: (MFS) If you’ve always wanted to knit socks, now is the perfect time to learn. The yarn market is loaded with exciting sock yarns (hand dyed, self patterning, alternative fibers) and tools of the trade (Lantern Moon’s revered Sox Stix and Bryson’s comforting short dpns). Mary will assist you through the cast-on, turning the heel and grafting the toe. And don’t forget you can stop by Sunday afternoon’s ongoing Sock Club for camaraderie and assistance. My Next Pair of Socks: Building on the overwhelming interest and success of My First Socks, we offer the next step (so to speak). Mary will cover the classic flap & gusset heel turn, leg and foot patterning, a grafted toe and the imminently practical concept of knitting both socks at the same time.  Larger Projects - Make the Leap Summer Cottage Throw: (SCT) Analogous to the Stash Buster Afghan we offered in the winter, the Summer Cottage Throw is a great way to use up leftover bits and pieces of yarns that linger long after the original project they were intended for has been finished (or abandoned?). We start with a cool linen or cotton base yarn in beach-inspired hues and add myriad creative embellishments that customize and personalize your masterpiece. Now we just need the lakeside or oceanfront cottage to complete the serene imagery…. Pre-requisite: Beginning Knitting or its equivalent. 2 sessions, $36 plus materials*.  Make Your Own Stitch Markers: (MYOS) We team up with Bead Heaven next door for a fun evening of creativity in this 2-hour workshop.  Moebius Scarf: Learn what all the fuss is about with the “moebius” cast-on made famous by Cat Bordhi. Once you master the technique, use this method to create unique scarves, hats, bowls, shawls and stoles.  NEW!!! Color Blending Workshop: (CBW) Theresa offers this theoretical precursor to knitting or crocheting project classes in hopes of unleashing the artistic creativity in every fiber enthusiast. Oftentimes we feel limited by the color choices a pattern writer uses or by the palette offered in a particular yarn. Using basic color principles, Theresa will help you overcome color barriers and learn to mix/match colors and fibers for fantastic results. Skills gleaned in this class will serve the adventuresome knitter well in future endeavors such as the Baby or Adult Surprise Jacket or the Einstein coat. WED 9/10 7:00-9:00 p.m. Fit Workshop a.k.a. What Not to Knit: (WNTK) Back by popular demand, Mary and Theresa return for their always informative, sometimes comedic discussion of the lessons every knitter needs to know. In Session I they will go over how to choose the right sweater pattern to flatter your body type. Session II will cover how to make the proper adjustments both before and after knitting to guarantee you will love and wear the final garment. Bring project ideas, sweaters that fit or don’t fit and a pencil for note-taking. No pre-requisites. $25 per session or $45 to attend both sessions.  Crocheted Shell Cami: From Doris Chan’s new book, the Crocheted Shell Cami is perfect both as a dressy layering piece or worn more casually with jeans or a skirt. Gedifra’s new yarn Ayala has a subtle wrapped texture with just enough sheen to make this garment truly special. An intermediate to advanced level crochet class in 3 sessions, $36 plus materials*. Crochet Blocks: Join Nancy in a bi-monthly gathering to learn a new crochet block. The blocks can be used singly as dishcloths or as embellishments for other projects, or combine them to create an afghan or baby blanket. Pre-requisite: Beginning Crochet or its equivalent.  Private Lessons - A Little One on One Private lessons are available at $25/hour. This is a great way to get some personal attention on a particular project. 15% discount offered for second and subsequent participants in the lesson. Inquire at the shop to arrange a mutually agreeable time *General class information: Please register at least one week prior to class start date. Payment at the time of registration will assure your spot in the class. If you need to cancel for any reason and are able to provide us with a 48-hour notice, we will gladly refund your registration fee. Cancellation after that, will incur a $10 processing fee and the remaining registration fee will be applied as “class credit” toward a future Knitche class. We may need to limit class size to optimize the experience. We reserve the right to cancel or alter a class based on enrollment and scheduling changes; every effort will be made to notify class registrants of any changes 48 hours prior to class start. Participation in a Knitche class entitles you to a 10% discount on the purchase of yarn and notions directly associated with enrollment in the class. Use of yarn purchased at Knitche will ensure class consistency. When you register, we can provide you with a list of needed supplies.
