KNITTING BASICSBeginning Knitting Scarf
(BKA) Beginning Knitting:  Learn the basics of cast-on, knit, and bind-off in this beginner class.  For the adult (ages 13 and up) class, we will work on a seasonally appropriate purse or scarf for that will teach you all the basics.  No previous experience is necessary.  $36 plus materials* for 2 sessions

(K201) Knitting 201:
  The next step.  Learn purling, increasing, decreasing,K201shawl K201 ruched scarfand pattern reading as you discover how to discern the difference between garter stitch and stockinette stitch.  The project is a lovely ruched scarf or a triangular fringed shawl. Pre-requisite:  Beginning Knitting or its equivalent.  2 sessions, $38 plus materials.*

(CONT) Speed Knitting:  Knitting is a Zen-like activity suited to the tranquil personality with loads of time on their hands.  You've got to be kidding!  Sure, we might use knitting to calm our nerves, but let's get real, we all want to get on to the next project in the queue.  So if you're an American-style knitter (thrower), we'll show you how to knit Continental (picker) so that you can really let the fiber fly.  1 session, $15. Bring yarn from home with appropriate needles.

SPIN.jpg(SPIN) Introductory Spinning:  Unlike the gym version, you won't have to work up a sweat in this spinning class.  We'll take you through the basics, beginning with drop spindle drafting, discuss fiber types, present wheel options and go over the steps you need to take to go from fantastic fleece to the handspun yarn of your dreams.  We will have a few wheels on hand for demonstration.  Drop spindles and accessory supplies will be available for purchase or you can bring your own.  We also have a library loan system for instructional books and DVDs to allow you to delve more deeply into spinning at home.  Come see how peaceful and relaxing it can be to spin.  No pre-requisites.  2 sessions.  $36 plus materials* (note: $15 of class fee is applicable toward the purchase of a spinning wheel within 3 months of class).

(CAST) Cast On Conundrum: Rumor has it that there are over 50 different cast-on methods!  We'll cover a few of our favorites and the merits of each.  This is an invaluable class that will change the way you start every new project.  1 session, $20. Bring yarn from home with appropriate needles.

(KMP) Kitchener Mattress Provision: If the prospect of finishing a garment has always sent shudders down your spine, this is the class for you. We'll cover three of the basic techniques you'll want in your arsenal - Kitchener stitch, Mattress seaming, and Provisional cast-on - to give you the confidence to tackle those UFOs (unfinished objects) in your knitting bag.  The actual project, an adorable sunglass case, is quite useful as well.  2 sessions.  $25 plus materials*.

(CAB) Intro to Cabling: Has the fear of cabling left your knitting a little flat?  Add some texture and fun to your knits by learning how simple cabling can be.  These fingerless gloves are a perfect way to explore cables and the mitts are so functional and fun to make that you might find friends putting in orders.  Skills taught:  circular knitting, cabling.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or equivalent.  2 sessions, $25 plus materials*.

(CCN) Cabling without a Cable Needle:  If you're intimidated by a project cabling without needlebecause of the overwhelming number of cable stitches across a row, this is the method for you.  We will do away with that pesky cable needle and fly through our cables in half the time in making a fashionable buttoned neckwarmer.  Skills taught:  Cabling without a cable needle.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or its equivalent and some experience knitting traditional cables.  1 session, $15 plus materials*.

(TS) Troubleshooting: 
Okay, you asked for it.  Let's make every mistake in
the book and then learn how to fix them calmly, gracefully and with the greatest of ease!  Mary will guide you through the most common mishaps and set you on the path to liberated knitting!  1 session, $25.

KNITTING - SKILL-ORIENTED PROJECTS  
(GBC)  Goodness, Gracious … Great Balls of Christmas!: Based on the bestselling new book, 55 Christmas Balls to Knit, "Arne" and "Carlos" (aka Mary and Edie) will present a Christmas-in-July workshop for those who like to be prepared ahead of time for the holidays.  Join us for a 2-day hands-on workshop in which you'll use new-found color-stranding, duplicate-stitching and embellishing techniques to create masterpieces for your tree.  Each participant is guaranteed to make at least 2 orbs (probably more) and have loads of fun in the process.  Pre-requisites:  must know how to knit, purl, inc, dec, and work in the round (without supervision).  2 sessions, $70 plus materials* (note: participants must purchase a copy of the book; other non-yarn supplies will be available for $5).  Please register for this workshop a week in advance so we can insure adequate supplies are on hand.

(3HH) 3-Hour Hat: Theresa works with multiple yarns to create this quick cabled hat, especially welcomed by the young set, or the young at heart.  In the 2-hour class you’ll learn everything you need to know so that finishing the hat up at home (that’s the third hour!) will be a snap.  Skills taught:  Circular knitting, cabling, working with large gauge.  Pre-requisite:  Beginning Knitting or equivalent.  1 session, $25 plus materials*.

(RSC) Catching the FloatSeveral of you have expressed an interest in learning an easy method for weaving in ends as you knit. By learning to manage multiple strands, we will introduce you to this time-saving method with applications in both fair-isle and intarsia knitting.  It doesn't hurt that the project itself is so adorable you will want to make one for everyone you know, thus enforcing your new-found skills.  Skills taught:  stranded colorwork, seaming, sewing in a zipper.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201, Continental (Speed) Knitting or equivalents (must have some familiarity with carrying yarn in left and right hand).  2 sessions, $25 plus materials*.

Entrelac Scarf: This class is a great way to learn something new without the commitment of a large-scale project.  We’ll explore the basics of this intriguing method while making a stunning multi-color scarf using one of several long-draw color-changing yarns.  Skills taught: Entrelac knitting.  Pre-requisite: Knitting 201 or equivalent.  2 sessions (note:  first session is longer than second), $32 plus materials*.

(UGG) “Ugg”-like Mittens: Knitted mittens are the epitome of comfort and warmth.  Only trouble is that frequently, like knitted socks, they are plagued with annoying gaps and holes, especially at the thumb gusset.  We’ve found a pattern that gets rid of that problem in an ingenious way, with the simple addition of a shearling-like embellishment.  Skills taught: circular knitting, rib stitch, whipstitch.  Pre-requisite: Knitting 201 or equivalent, experience knitting circularly on double-points or 2 circs helpful.  2 sessions, $25 plus materials*.

My First Sock(MFS) My First Socks:  If you've always wanted to knit socks, now is the perfect time to learn.  The yarn market is loaded with exciting sock yarns (hand dyed, self patterning, alternative fibers) and tools of the trade.  Mary will assist you with every step of the way including cast-on, turning the hourglass heel and knitting a simple toe.  Skills taught:  Use of double pointed needles.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or its equivalent.  3 sessions (note:  2nd session is longer than the others), $36 plus materials*.

(MNS) My Next Pair of Socks: Building on the overwhelming interest and success of My First Socks, we offer the next step (so to speak).  Mary will cover the classic flap & gusset heel turn, leg and foot patterning, a grafted toe and the eminently practical concept of knitting both socks at the same time.  Skills taught:  Short row shaping, kitchener stitch grafting.  Pre-requisite: My First Socks. 3 sessions, $36 plus materials.*

(TOE) Toe-Up Socks:
  Never a big sock knitter myself, I discovered howToe Up Sock enjoyable knitting them can be using the toe-up method on two circular needles.  You get that scary toe part out of the way from the get-go, you can try them on as you go for a perfect fit, and "guestimating" how much yarn you'll need to finish the sock is a thing of the past.  Come join the toe-up revolution!  Skills taught:  2 needle cast-on, circular knitting.  Pre-requisite:  My First Socks or equivalent.  2 sessions, $36 plus materials*.  SUN 5/22,  6/5 &

(TDS) Top-Down Sweater:  If you've knitted one too many scarves and you're feeling ready to tackle your first sweater, this class is for you.  We will assist you through all the steps in following the top-down sweater/shrug pattern of your choice, knit in the round on circular needles so that very little finishing need be done.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or its equivalent; swatching homework will be assigned prior to class start.  3 sessions (note:  first session is longer than the others), $42 plus materials.  Note:  several pattern options exist.

(BIB) Short Row Bib: Spring is the season for new arrivals and chances are you know of a few that could use a drool bib or two.  This version is sweet and functional and you'll even learn a new knitting technique (short rowing) while churning them out.  Skills taught:  Short rows, i-cord.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or its equivalent.  1 session, $19 plus materials*.

Baby Booties(BOO) Stay Put Booties: Part two of the baby gift package (see bib above), these booties actually stay on wee feet, thanks to the i-cord "shoelace."  Knit up in worsted weight yarn in one-piece construction, you'll want to make several pairs, fueling baby Imelda's shoe fetish early on.  Skills taught:  Long-tail cast-on, stitch marker use, slipping stitches, i-cord.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or its equivalent.  1 session, $25 plus materials*.

(BEAD) Beaded Knitting:  Let Karen introduce you to the delicate and beautiful world of beaded knitting as you begin a beaded shawlette or scarf with lace-weight yarn.  You will learn a hooked beading technique that avoids having to pre-string beads (bring a tube of size 6 seed beads to class).  Skills taught:  Crochet hook beading as you go, working with fine gauge yarn.  Pre-requisite:  Knitting 201 or its equivalent.  1 session, $18 plus materials*.

KIDS' CLASSES  

purse(BKK) Kids' Beginning Knitting: Learn the basics of cast-on, knit and bin-off in this beginner class.  Kids (ages 8-13) will make a smaller version of the purse the adults make, a scarf or a funky bean bag.  No previous experience necessary.  $30 plus materials* for 2 sessions.

CROCHET CLASSES
(BCD) Beginning Crochet Dishcloth:  Learn how to crochet with the traditional first Beginning Crochetproject - the dishcloth.  Actually, if you prefer, make it a washcloth or scarf, but regardless, the skills you learn will serve you well in any future crochet endeavor.  Skills taught: Chain stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet, double crochet.  Pre-requisite:  None.  1 session, $25 plus materials.*

(TUN) Turned on to Tunisian: Tunisian (aka Afghan stitch) crochet has been gaining in popularity lately, due in part to the availability of new tools of the trade and the fact that many designers have embraced the technique for projects other than traditional Afghan throws.  We will introduce you to Tunisian crochet in this beginner level class in hopes that you will get “hooked” and want to explore more on your own.  The project is a useful potholder utilizing 3 different Tunisian stitch patterns.  Pre-requisite:  Beginning Crochet or equivalent.  1 session, $18 plus materials*.

crocheted bracelet(BCB) Beaded Crochet Bracelet: Need a quick gift for mom or a best girlfriend?  Or maybe you just want a little bling for yourself?  Try your hand at beaded crochet.  This quick project from Interweave Crochet involves one skein of yarn, a few pretty beads, a hook and a button.  Choose to make the multi-bangle version or braided cable for a unique accessory.  Skills taught:  beaded crochet.  Pre-requisite:  Beginning Crochet or its equivalent.  1 session, $19 plus materials*.

KNIT AND CROCHET-ALONGS
Knit-Alongs (KALs) & Crochet-Alongs (CALs) are informal instructor-guided sessions focused on the completion of a particular project.  Drop in and out as you like ($6 per one-hour session) and benefit from an on-site instructor working on the project along with you and other enthusiastic stitchers.

PRIVATE LESSONS - A LITTLE ONE ON ONE
Private lessons are available at $25/hour ($12.50 for 1/2 hour).  This is a great way to get some personal attention on a particular project.  A 15% discount is offered for second and subsequent participants in the lesson.  Please inquire at the shop to arrange a mutually agreeable time.


*General class information
:  Please register at least one week prior to class start date.  Payment at the time of registration will assure your spot in the class.  If you need to cancel for any reason and are able to provide us with a 48-hour notice, we will gladly refund your registration fee.  Cancellation after that will incur a $10 processing fee and you may request that the remaining registration fee will be applied as "class credit" toward a future Knitche class.  Please be advised that such a request must be made within one week of the last class session date and credit must be used within 60 days.  We may need to limit class size to optimize the experience.  We reserve the right to cancel or alter a class based on enrollment and scheduling changes; every effort will be made to notify class registrants of any changes 48 hours prior to class start.  Participation in a Knitche class entitles you to a 10% discount on the purchase of yarn and notions directly associated with enrollment in the class.  Use of yarn purchased at Knitche will ensure class consistency.  When you register we can provide you with a list of needed supplies.  Please purchase all supplies and ensure that yarn is wound prior to the start of class.
